Privacy Policy

CellarSage ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices.

1. Who We Are

CellarSage is a wine and beer recommendation app developed by Craig Quarrell, based in Australia. Contact: support@cellarsage.com.au

2. Information We Collect

2a. Location Data

With your permission, we access your device's GPS location (high accuracy) to:

• Identify your Australian state to show locally available wine pricing
• Find bottle shops near you

Your coordinates are sent to our server solely to fulfil your request and are not stored, logged, or shared with third parties.

2b. Palate Preferences

Your quiz answers (taste preferences, food pairing style, budget range) are stored locally on your device using your device's secure storage. This data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to our servers.

2c. Crash & Diagnostic Data

To find and fix bugs, we use Firebase Crashlytics (a Google service) to collect crash reports and diagnostic information when the app crashes or encounters an error. This may include:

• The type of crash or error and the events leading up to it
• Device state at the time — device model, operating system version, app version, and memory/storage state
• A randomly generated Crashlytics installation identifier used to group a device's crash reports (it is not an advertising identifier and is not linked to your identity)

This information is diagnostic only. It does not include your name, contact details, location, or palate preferences, and we do not use it to identify you or for advertising.

2d. Usage Analytics

To understand whether features are actually used, we use Firebase Analytics (a Google service) to count a small number of in-app events. At present this is limited to:

• That you started and finished the quiz, that recommendations were shown (and how many), and that you adjusted a palate dial afterwards — each with whether it was wine or beer
• That you tapped through to a retailer, with the retailer's name (a shop, not a person), where in the app you tapped, and the recommendation tier
• That you saved a palate profile, or saved a wine or beer to one
• That a "did you get to try it?" question was shown, and which fixed option you chose (for example "just right", "too heavy" or "couldn't find it"), whether the question followed saving a drink or tapping through to a retailer, and whether you saved a profile from it
• That you tapped the share button on your palate card, and whether the card was a wine or a beer one
• That generating a palate card failed, so we can fix it

We record that these actions happened — not what your palate is. Your quiz answers, your palate dial settings, the wording of your palate card, the names of the wines or beers you were shown, saved or asked about, and your location are not sent to Firebase Analytics. Your saved profiles, your saved drinks, the drinks you recently tapped through to a retailer for (kept for up to 30 days, so the app can ask how they went), and which drink each "did you get to try it?" answer was about are kept on your device; there is no account holding them on our servers.

Firebase Analytics also automatically collects standard technical information, including a randomly generated app instance identifier, your device model and operating system version, app version, and an approximate location (country or region) derived from your IP address. We have disabled advertising identifier collection and ad personalisation.

You can stop this collection entirely by uninstalling the app.

2e. Information We Do Not Collect

We do not collect:

• Your name, email address, or any contact details
• Account credentials (there are no user accounts)
• Payment information
• Browsing history or advertising identifiers

3. How We Use Your Information

Location data is used only to return relevant wine recommendations and nearby store results for your current session. We do not use your data for advertising or profiling.

4. Third-Party Services

CellarSage uses the following third-party services:

• Google Maps Platform — for mapping and location services. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
• Supabase — our backend database provider, hosting our wine catalogue. No personal data is stored in this database.
• Fly.io — our backend server host. Processes location requests but does not retain personal data.
• Firebase Crashlytics (Google) — crash reporting and stability diagnostics. Subject to Firebase's Privacy and Security policy and Google's Privacy Policy.
• Firebase Analytics (Google) — counts of in-app events, as described in section 2d. Subject to the same Firebase and Google policies.

Some wine listings include affiliate links. Clicking a purchase link may take you to a retailer's website, which has its own privacy policy.

5. Data Retention

We do not retain personal data on our servers. Your palate preferences are stored on your device and can be cleared by uninstalling the app. Crash and diagnostic reports are processed and retained by Firebase Crashlytics in accordance with Google's policies (typically up to 90 days). Analytics event counts are retained by Firebase Analytics in accordance with Google's policies.

6. Children and Age Verification

CellarSage is an alcohol-related service intended for adults of legal drinking age in their jurisdiction. The app includes an age verification screen. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under the legal drinking age.

7. Your Rights (Australian Privacy Act 1988)

Under Australian privacy law you have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of any personal information we hold about you. We do not collect or store personal information ourselves; for the diagnostic and analytics data processed by Firebase, contact us and we will request its deletion. 8. Security

All communication between the app and our servers uses HTTPS encryption. We follow industry-standard practices to protect any data in transit.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
