CellarSage ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices.
CellarSage is a wine and beer recommendation app developed by Craig Quarrell, based in Australia. Contact: support@cellarsage.com.au
With your permission, we access your device's approximate location to:
Your coordinates are sent to our server solely to fulfil your request and are not stored, logged, or shared with third parties.
Versions of the app before 1.3.27 requested your precise (GPS) location. It was used in exactly the same way, and never stored.
Your quiz answers (taste preferences, food pairing style, budget range) are stored locally on your device using your device's secure storage. When you ask for recommendations, your taste preferences, food pairing style and budget range are sent to our server only to calculate your picks, and not stored, unless you choose to include them with a problem report (section 2e). The food category you chose is also counted by our usage analytics, as described in section 2d.
To find and fix bugs, we use Firebase Crashlytics (a Google service) to collect crash reports and diagnostic information when the app crashes or encounters an error. This may include:
This information is diagnostic only. It does not include your name, contact details, location, or palate preferences, and we do not use it to identify you or for advertising.
To understand whether features are actually used, we use Firebase Analytics (a Google service) to count a small number of in-app events. At present this is limited to:
We record that these actions happened — not what your palate is. Your other quiz answers, your palate dial settings, the wording of your palate card, the names of the wines or beers you were shown, saved or asked about, and your location are not sent to Firebase Analytics. Your saved profiles, your saved drinks, the drinks you recently tapped through to a retailer for (kept for up to 30 days, so the app can ask how they went), and which drink each "did you get to try it?" answer was about are kept on your device; there is no account holding them on our servers.
Firebase Analytics also automatically collects standard technical information, including a randomly generated app instance identifier, your device model and operating system version, app version, and an approximate location (country or region) derived from your IP address. We have disabled advertising identifier collection and ad personalisation.
You can stop this collection entirely by uninstalling the app.
We do not receive your name, exact location, device identifier or any other way to identify you. If you tap "Something wrong with this pick?" and send a report, we receive the name of the wine or beer, the shop it was listed at, the origin label it was shown with (for example "The Local Hero"), the reason you chose from a fixed list (for example "The price is wrong"), the app version and build number, and whether your phone is Android or iPhone. There is no free-text box, and the report is not linked to you.
From app version 1.3.28 the report form has an "Include my answers" box, ticked to start with. While it is ticked, the report also includes the answers behind that pick, so we can see what you saw: your Australian state, the style or grape, your budget range, the dry or organic filters, and on the wheel the food you chose. We never include whether you chose alcohol-free, and in alcohol-free mode we leave the budget out too. Untick the box and none of your answers are sent.
Reports are stored on our server so we can check and correct the information, and are reviewed weekly.
We do not collect:
Location data is used only to return relevant wine recommendations and nearby store results for your current session. We do not use your data for advertising or profiling.

Some wine listings include affiliate links. Clicking a purchase link may take you to a retailer's website, which has its own privacy policy.
We do not retain personal data on our servers. Problem reports (section 2e) are kept on our server, but contain no personal information and cannot be linked to you; we keep them for up to 12 months, then delete them. Your palate preferences are stored on your device and can be cleared by uninstalling the app. Crash and diagnostic reports are processed and retained by Firebase Crashlytics in accordance with Google's policies (typically up to 90 days). Analytics event counts are retained by Firebase Analytics in accordance with Google's policies.
CellarSage is an alcohol-related service intended for adults of legal drinking age in their jurisdiction. The app includes an age verification screen. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under the legal drinking age.
Under Australian privacy law you have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of any personal information we hold about you. We do not collect or store personal information ourselves; for the diagnostic and analytics data processed by Firebase, contact us and we will request its deletion. All communication between the app and our servers uses HTTPS encryption. We follow industry-standard practices to protect any data in transit.
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
